Character Name: Luna Lovegood
Series: Harry Potter
Age: Either 15 or 16, depending on when her exact birthday is. Either way, she'll have completed her 5th year of schooling, which requires her to be at least 15 at the start of it nine months prior.
From When?: From the end of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Inmate/Warden: Warden. Luna, if a bit weird, is kind, sympathetic, and observant. She doesn't let cruelty or unkindness affect her and is staunch, stalwart, and hopeful to make friends. She's vigorously defensive of people she considered 'hers', and given a task, will not stop until it's completed. As a person she's fairly nonjudgemental and is genuinely interested in people and has a desire to always learn more. She's exceptionally good at comforting the odd and out-of-place and teaching them that even though it might not be popular, it's okay to be yourself.

Item: Her wand.

Abilities/Powers:

Luna is a witch in the Harry Potter universe: she has a wand and five years' worth of wizardly education under her belt. She's also a member of Dumbledore's Army, meaning that she's been trained in defensive magic against the dark arts. Luna can produce a Patronus charm in the shape of a hare. She's relatively good at dueling, charms, and caring for magical creatures and can produce a variety of spells.

Luna can see thestrals - winged horses - because when she was nine, she witnessed her mother's accidental death.

Personality: Luna, in a word, is odd.

Completely and totally an oddball.

Known to other Hogwarts students as "Looney" Lovegood, Luna occupies her own world and has a strong reputation of being completely out of touch with reality. She believes in a lot of things most people think are imaginary or made up conspiracies, dresses oddly, and says precisely what's on her mind without filter. She seems to care very little about what other people think about how odd she is, and while she does get bullied for these odd qualities, she seems to take the majority of it in stride. She's noted as believing in things only if there's no evidence for them at all.

Luna is far more likely to make decisions based on faith rather than logic, has extraordinary intuition and thinks primarily with her heart. As a Ravenclaw, Luna is stereotypically perceptive, clever and unorthodox in her thinking. She's often described as having a 'dreamy' look in her eye, as if she were only half aware of a conversation taking place around her. This often leads to her thinking up odd solutions to problems other people struggle with (Instructing Harry to speak to the Ghost of Ravenclaw tower, for example).

Luna is extraordinarily kind to her friends, and doesn't seem to possess a mean bone in her body. She's often teased for her weirdness, but doesn't ever seem to let it bother her very much, giving other students around her a very forgiving perspective. She seems content to act in her own world independently of what others think she should do, and stays true to herself and her feelings no matter what. She's peaceful, almost whimsical, but underneath her waifish exterior is a surprising amount of courage and strength. Once she attaches herself to Harry and the D.A., Luna becomes a fierce and loyal friend, willing to do whatever it takes to help Harry and the rest in whatever insane, dangerous schemes they get mixed up in.

Unfortunately, while Luna is very perceptive in some areas, she's extraordinarily lacking in social situations, and it takes her a much longer time to grasp cues while in group settings. Luna often says precisely what's on her mind about someone without using any sort of filter, because it doesn't occur to her that others would rather not be faced with raw honesty. She laughs too loudly at jokes, wears odd clothing, and is vigorously defensive of her father's newspaper, the Quibbler, which is essentially the Wizarding world's tabloid newspaper that almost no one takes seriously. She's aware of how unpopular she is - remarking once to Harry that people expect him to have cooler friends than her - but doesn't seem to let it bother her. Her eccentricities even in the wizarding world seem to alienate her from other people for the most part, but to rein herself in in order to best make friends wouldn't be something she would ever want to do. At times, she can seem completely oblivious to a situation or not realize how much trouble/danger she's actually in.

Luna seems to pick up songs at a whim and while she often wants to encourage her friends and support them, often takes her enthusiasm one step too far into the realm of the bizarre or embarrassing. She has a long memory for crackpot theories, conspiracies, and made-up creatures and can talk at length about things no one else believes in. She's shown a willingness to befriend anyone who's kind to her, and can often see through to a person's true intentions. Luna, despite her penchant for believing ridiculous things, is very observant of other people - she's able to tell who Harry is under the guise of Polyjuice Potion, even when no one else was able to do so or would have reason to suspect he was there.

Luna's opinions are very hard for her to shake. She doesn't often change her mind, and never because any person thinks badly on her because of what she thinks. Leading into this, she never gives up or allow defeat to enter into her mind. Things are the way they are and she needs to see them through: this is a position she takes up numerous times when faced with ridicule by her classmates up to and including her eventual imprisonment by Death Eaters.

Ultimately, Luna is an outsider looking in and wanting to join the party, but still faces rejection because she's a bit too strange: she won't ever compromise her values in order to fit in.

Barge Reactions: Because she's both part of a world full of magic and also because she's a complete oddball herself, Luna will take exceptionally well to the Barge. She might get a bit excited to start with when she realizes how strange and curious everything is, and will eventually settle down into her normal bliss. She'll take to floods and breaches as she would any spell-gone-wrong, and want to make herself as useful as possible.

Path to Redemption: N/A

Deal: With the Dark Lord's return, Luna's deal is to protect her friends and her father. She has full confidence that Harry will defeat Voldemort, but her deal is to make sure he and his friends survive their encounters too.

History: Here!

Sample Journal Entry: Test Drive meme
Sample RP:

Luna had never seen a washing machine before.

Curious about living among Muggles for the first time, Luna crept forward to better investigate the mysterious machine. Her bare toes wiggled on the floor of the laundry room as she knelt down, peering inside of it. The gleaming metal interior reminded her a bit of a portal; she wondered if other wizards had ever thought to use a washing machine as a vanishing cabinet. Was that where everyone's socks were going? Perhaps washing machines were themselves magical, in a way.

She stood back, bringing her wand out from where it had been tucked behind her ear, and tapped the machine once.

It didn't react.

She tapped it again, and shouted; 'Locomotor!' To her surprise and delight, the washing machine jumped forward by a foot. Well, that was good, wasn't it! Muggle objects on the Barge could be affected by magic after all.

Now, how did one of these things work? Luna supposed it had to be filled with water first, and chanted another spell to fill up the machine. Only something had gone wrong, and the water was tepid and bright, hot pink. That couldn't be right, could it?

Oh, and now it was making a churning sort of noise. Water was bursting forth at the seams of it, and curiously, the machine began to smoke. Chewing on her bottom lip in thought, Luna raised her wand again and shrunk the machine, dropping it to the size of a thimble. Kneeling down, she picked it up and looked it over.

Her clothes were still in there, and still shrunk, but at the very least they were clean. Giving a blissful smile, Luna dropped the washing machine in her pocket to fix properly later, tucked her wand behind her ear, and skipped off to breakfast. She wasn't too bothered by the sudden lack of one washing machine; there were four others still in the room, and maybe one of the other Barge residents would know how to fix the charm. She couldn't have been the first witch to make an accidental mistake like this, after all.
